I. Job Summary The Director will drive the vision for WM's demand-side fuel and power category and oversee the develop and execution of strategies to procure and contract the various forms of fuel and power for WM's entire demand-side portfolio of ~36Trillion BTUs of fuel and power at the best combination of quality, cost, delivery, service, and sustainability - value , using strategic sourcing, category management, and continuous improvement methods to eliminate waste, inefficiencies, and low-value work upstream and downstream in the various fuel and power value chains further integrating the various fuel and power supply chains within WM and supplier operations. The Director will ensure the fuel and power team has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the applicable fuel and power markets, new technologies, industry innovations, sources of supply and price risk, as well as mitigation strategies of those risks. This position will also be responsible for collaboratively overseeing the execution of WM's programmatic hedging strategy for WM's demand-side natural gas with the Treasury and Accounting teams under the general oversight of the Risk Management committee. Eventually the Director will expand the hedging program to include electric power and distillate fuel. The Director collaborates with other parts of the business such as Sustainability to align and support enterprise sustainability objects for emissions reduction and other environmental impacts that can be influenced by the renewability of the types of fuels and power WM selects. WM's demand-side fuel and power portfolio includes all utilities such as brown-electric power, green-electric power , natural gas, and propane, as well as fuels such as natural gas for CNG /LNG , petroleum-based diesel and green - diesel for collection vehicles and heavy equipment, and electric power for the collection fleet of the future. The annual spend for the fuel and power category is between $700M and $850M and will grow dramatically over the next several years. In addition to direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities, this position will also involve individual contributor assignments and project work from time-to-time. II. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other ancillary duties may be assigned. Able to influence adoption and utilization of supply chain programs without formal authority using data, information, and communication of value to stakeholders. Continuous development and coaching of direct and indirect team members in supply chain competencies fundamental to organizational effectiveness for areas of responsibility such as: Effective category or sub-category strategy development and execution Clean sheet analysis to understand cost structures and total cost of ownership Value chain assessments Bid structure development and analysis. Supply contract development Negotiation strategy and execution Project management to ensure effective implementation of programs. Supplier and market risk assessment and mitigation strategy development and execution Ensures congruence between Enterprise and Area goals and requirements. Develops strategies and processes to appropriately minimize the total cost of ownership to the Company of those products and services under scope of responsibility. Demonstrates competency in setting negotiation strategies and planning for execution. Builds credibility with other internal organizations and constructively dissenting when appropriate, to push organization to pursue maximum value from negotiated agreements. Able to assimilate data and information quickly and connect the dots to support business imperatives. Communicates effectively with internal and external partner organizations. Solves problems and drives issue resolution, both internally with stakeholders and externally with suppliers. Sustains collaborative relationships with Company managers and executives impacted by Supply Chain results. Has a working understanding of source-to-pay processes and tools and ensures effective utilization to drive value. Leads/coaches/develops people resources and role models effective professional behaviors at all times. III. Supervisory Responsibilities The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of managerial employees as well as individual contributors - some of which may have a manager's title. This includes direct supervision of full-time employee(s), indirect supervision of full-time employee(s), and direct or indirect supervision of project specific employee(s) working on initiatives aligned to the fuel and power category.IV. QualificationsThe requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. A. Education and ExperienceRequired: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar area of study. Minimum of ten (10) years' work experience in fuel and power or fuel and power related field at the enterprise level at a Fortune 200 company. Preferred: Master's degree in supply chain, Finance, or Business Administration Ten (10) years of strategic sourcing and category management work experience in fuel and power or fuel and power adjacent categories at the corporate level within a fortune 200 company. B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements C.P.M or CPSM preferred but not required. C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required Must be a customer-focused change agent with demonstrated leadership, collaboration, communication, influencing and organization management/development skills. Must be a team player who can work within a matrix organization to achieve results Demonstrated ability to develop and build strong relationships and facilitate changes in systems and processes to support internal and external customers; has quickly evaluated a complex system and identified problems and potential solutions. Ability to use software and information technology to more effectively manage and grow the function Demonstrated strong strategic thinking and ability to execute and implement. Demonstrated ability to partner and build relationships in diverse businesses. Demonstrated ability to successfully lead cross-functional teams to results. Possess strong financial acumen and operational expertise. V. Work Environment Listed below are key points regarding environmental demands and work environment of the job. Normal setting for this job is: Hybrid - currently Monday - Thursday in the office, Friday remote. Visits to landfills, material recycling facilities, transfer stations, waste-to-power-plants, and collection hauling operations may be required from time-to-time.
