Part-time Early Childhood Education Instructor Northeastern Junior College is seeking applications for the Early Childhood Education Instructor for the Adult and Community Education (ACE) Family Literacy program. The ECE Instructor will ensure the planning, operation, and coordination of the children's education component of the Family Literacy Program, as well as screen the children participants. The ECE Instructor will utilize research-based curriculum to implement age-appropriate materials and lessons and will coordinate Parent and Child Together (PACT) time on a weekly basis. The ECE Instructor will manage and create a safe and enriching literacy-focused learning environment for children of the Adult and Community Education and NJC students. For more information about NJC, see the college web site at: http://www.njc.edu PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide active learning instruction with children through exploration, age-appropriate lessons, and social interaction with peers and adults (parents and instructors). Plan and carry out Parent and Child Together (PACT) time that provides quality one-on-one time for children with their parents. Maintain and document attendance, assessment scores, PACT activities, and anecdotal records on participating children. Expectations: Facilitation of a learning-centered classroom and out-of-classroom activities; real-life applications of learning and mentoring of students; and program development. Service to students through student activities sponsorship and teamwork with peers in college activities, planning and committee responsibilities. Expertise demonstrated through in-depth curricular knowledge; strong focus on learning experience/skill in using new technologies; innovative delivery and curriculum development; excellent communication skills. Positive attitude through dedication to NJC mission and values; willingness to accept and promote change; open-minded fairness and consideration of multiple perspectives; willingness to take risks, work hard, accept responsibility for personal/professional growth, lead and follow well, accept criticism, handle conflict, and motivate others. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in early childhood education or childcare. Ability to maintain a positive attitude Strong organizational and inter-personal communication skills. Ability to work closely with the Director of ACE and utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to absorb and analyze information quickly and to translate ideas into action proactively - self-starter, highly motivated, ability to think strategically Proficient in the use of technology (i.e. computers, Microsoft Office Suite, iPads, etc.). Skills in using internet-based computer programs required. Contract Specifics: Part-time up to 28 hours a week. Salary $18.50 to $20.00 per hour based on experience; Schedule may include: Mornings 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Tuesday through Friday; and Evenings 5:30 pm to 8:30pm Monday through Thursday. Class schedules follow the Adult Education and Family Literacy academic calendar and are contingent upon enrollment. Funding to support education and professional development in Early Childhood education will be provided. This is a grant funded position. This should be approximately 30 minutes in length and should include appropriate teaching/learning technology. College/Community Profile: Northeastern Junior College, one of 13 member-colleges of the Community Colleges of Colorado, lies in the rural northeastern Colorado town of Sterling. The community of approximately 13,000 residents enjoys easy access to Denver, the Rocky Mountains and the western-agricultural lifestyle. Northeastern Junior College enrolls approximately 1,500 full and part-time students through a wide variety of majors in associate degree and certificate programs. Approximately 65-70% of our students indicated they plan to transfer on to complete a four-year degree while the other 30-35% of our students pursue careers after completing an AAS degree or certificate program. As a residential campus with six residence halls accommodating 550 students, the college attracts students from throughout Colorado, many states and several foreign countries. Approximately 50 full-time and 30 part-time faculty comprise the teaching staff.
